Features of Pharm-D Course

The Pharm D program is post-graduate pharmacy degree of 6 years. The Pharm.D degree requires five years of classroom and hospital based study, followed by one year of internship training in addition to ongoing practicals and research project. Pharm D is a post graduate degree and passed out students can directly register for Ph D.

Pharm-D Curriculum

The Pharm D course offers a very good theoretical and practical knowledge to students on Pharmacotherapeutics, Clinical Pharmacy, Clinical Research, Biopharmaceutics, Hospital Pharmacy, and Community Pharmacy.

At our institution Pharm D students are well provided with good infrastructure and learning facilities to build up their knowledge and improve their practice in Pharmacotherapy. Our students carry out their practical classes at Vivekanandha Medical Care Hospital, which is one of the concern of Vivekanandha Educational Institutions for Women. It is a 300 Bedded hospital offering medical services at various departments; Cardiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, and General Surgery being the most specialized departments.

Ward Rounds

Pharm-D students are posted at various departments at Vivekanandha Medical Care Hospital. They participate in ward rounds with the physicians, which offer them a very good knowledge on therapeutics, emergency medicine, and patient care. The students update their knowledge on safe use of drugs by monitoring the therapy regimen of the patients. The physicians teach the students the various issues involved in prescribing drugs and changing drug therapy to ensure patient safety. The students come across a variety of cases and drug therapy which improve their knowledge on Pharmacotherapeutics. Students give bed-side counseling to the patients, also.

Patient Medical and Medication interview

Involving in Patient Medical and Medication interviews improves the students’ ability to communicate with patients. This would help them in retrieving information from the patients regarding their past medical and medication history.

Pharm-D students employ formulated systems in getting informations so as to facilitate good patient information retrieval.

Patient Counselling

Pharm-D students are posted at Counselling sections at various departments. The students give Counselling to the patients regarding correct and safe usage of medicines, and diet and life-style modifications.

Pharm. D students are actively involved in Pharmacovigilance (PV) activities like detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem.

Drug & Poison Information Services

Drug & Poison Information Services were established in Vivekanandha Medical Care Hospital and quipped with advanced drug reference data base of Micromedex and Lexicomp to answer the drug and poison information’s to the health care professional and public.

Outreach Activities

Through the out Research Program, the Swamy Vivekanandha College of Pharmacy offers an enrichment opportunity for highly motivated students who wish to explore a challenging alternative educational experience outside of the traditional pharmacy curriculum.

Department of Pharmacy Practice is organizing the community based outreach activities to encourage the Pharm. D students to participate in the creating awareness on safe and effective medication use, management of chronic diseases and prevention of communicable diseases.

Department of Pharmacy Practice provides the adequate facility to carry out the research in clinical settings and encouraging the students to participate and present their research work in various scientific conferences and journals. More than 50 research papers were presented and published by the students.

Department of pharmacy practice is equipped with separate computer lab with more than20 computers and library with recent journals and books.
